Description: This well and spring information was orinigally obtained from the references South Dakota Database (Report of Investigations No. 110- Geothermal Potentials in South Dakota) by Robert A. Schoon and Duncan J. McGregor South Dakota Geological Survey - Department of Natural Resouce Development, Vermillion, South Dakota - 1974 NOAA webpage - MENU+South_-Dakota+SD. It was compiled by the Oregon Institute of Technology, Geo-Heat Center and made available for distribution through the AASG National Geothermal Data Systems project. There are 821 entries in the Well Information Database with temperatures of 20oC or above including 164 wells/springs with a temperature above 50oC. There are 4 entries in the Chemistry Information Database. A collocated study was completed by the Geo-Heat Center using the database compiled from the above mentioned report. A collocated community is defined as being within 8 km of a geothermal resource with a temperature of at least 50°C. There are 58 entries in the collocated database. The Geo-Heat Center has maintained a database of known direct use applications located in the US although we believe there are a significant number of projects utilizing geothermal energy for space heating, greenhouses and resorts that are not included in this database.
